Lift Me Up

NZ's seaside town of Kaikoura experienced a 7.8 earthquake back in 2016, and signs of the shifting earth are everywhere. Construction was still being done to repair the roads leading into town. Another visible change was the uplift of the seafloor in the tidal zone - some areas raised by several meters. Coastal features like these limestone fins were probably submerged below the low tide line before the quake and not as clearly visible. Before sunrise, they reflected the colorful sky. Later in the day, these same features looked bleached white.
