Ancient sediments coalesced to form some beautiful rock formations under the pressure of glaciers, volcanoes, and erosion activity. Unusual jointing and irregular angular fractures are characteristic of the Kittery Formation and consist of quartzite, slate, phyllite, schist, iron, and garnet.
