Memorial Bridge Deconstruction

While I prefer strict landscape photography, incorporating the hand of man in the landscape is always a challenge creatively and technically. Often, events such as the Memorial Bridge Deconstruction project take place when lighting is not optimal for stand-out images. The sight of a huge steel bridge floating down the harbor was visually a stunning subject and a bit of local history. Instead of reacting to light and composition, photographic decision are determined by tides, construction deadlines/schedules, weather, and safety concerns of the barge and tug operators. If you have not had the opportunity to witness this amazing project, hopefully these images will give you a sense of its scale.

I am pleased to announce that my image The Beacon taken in Glacier National Park was recently chosen as one of the nine Highly Honored Photos in the 2011 Nature's Best Photography Competition (Windland Smith-Rice Award). The image was selected from among 21,000 entries from around the world, so this was a real accomplishment for me. The competition is one of the most prestigious and draws internationally recognized photographers. While not the Grand Prize winner for the Landscape category, there is always next year's competition! A video slide show can be viewed Here.

For returning viewers, welcome to my new web site format. Hopefully you will find viewing and finding images much easier and enjoyable. Some of the major changes which I find especially useful are complete thumbnail images when browsing Galleries and Sub-Galleries. This should give you a much better idea of what an image looks like without having to select the larger version. Also, many images in a gallery can be viewed at a glance. You will also notice a streamlined ordering and purchase option available under each photo. PayPal ordering should be up and running shortly, but for now I accept Cash, Check, and Money Orders.
If you have any trouble navigating the new site, please send an email and I wil try to get the problem resolved. Enjoy!
